Northern Sky Reflection

12 hour exposure; a Moon-less night allows the stars to shine their brightest.
Moab, Utah

One of the things I love most about photography is the ability to experiment.  This image was created during "New Moon" when skies are their darkest.  In order to capture detail of the tree and rock wall, I pre-exposed 8x10 film once at dusk, then re-exposed the same sheet of film throughout the night to capture the star trails writing on the sky and reflecting pool.
